Spain 2020 - GIrona and Southern Pyrenees
8 days $4190 - Early July
Spain has long been the country of choice for cyclists seeking warmer weather to ride in – until recently Girona has been one of the lesser-visited areas. All that’s changed now as more riders begin to take note of Girona and its charm – with attractions both on and off the bike.
Home to a disproportionate number of pro cyclists for its sub 100k total population, Girona has a lot to give: undulating country lanes, testing climbs, technical descents plus an explosion of varied cuisine and its own unique history, culture and architecture.
Some of the most notable climbs nearby include the famous Rocacorba and Els Angles, whilst they are not mountain passes at 13.8kms and 3.2 they are still challenging. The Banyolas (the Olympic Rowing course) at the base of Rocacorba is a great place to sit back with a coffee in hand overlooking the lake. Our stay in Girona is 5 nights before we ride over to Camprodon
CAMPRODON, THE SOUTHERN PYRENEES
We visit the charming town of Camprodon which is situated at the Southern tip of the Pyrenees is our home for 3 nights with our accommodation at the base of Vattler 2000 an imposing mountain Ski resort some 23kms ride to the top. The summit is breath taking as you look down into the valley.
Our ride on the second day out of Camprodon has one of the best descents you could ever ride with a coffee stop at a tiny village before we head to Casttellfolit de la Roca for lunch and then back to Camprodon. This is one of our favourite rides in Spain.
